Thermarest seemed so expensive besides the fact that I just cannot believe that I could sleep all night on something so small and not have my bony hips touch ground! After 1 terrible hiking trip sleeping on a foam pad, I turned to the internet and after reading multiple reviews found the POE sleeping pad (although I had some doubts about its pool-lilo-like construction). I gulped a bit at the price, but when it arrived could not have been happier with its size and weight. Obvious enough that on a recent backpacking trip, I actually got hot sleeping on this pad with its reflective heat features. Be aware that it is narrow. I'm 6.2, 200lbs and was very comfortable, but if you are very wide in the shoulders, suggest you look for a wider option. On slopes, my sleeping bag still slowly scooted down over the course of the night, but the pad itself did not move.Cleans easily, inflates quickly (even for those out of breath at high altitudes). Also deflates quickly and is simple to roll back up and get into its included bag (yes, included, unlike those others you have to buy). Also came with a repair kit (unnecessary so far). Got to be one of the lightest pads out there, hardly noticed it in my pack and huge improvement over my old self-inflatable (old one weighed more than 1.5lbs). Light, very packable, comfortable, reasonably warm* and half the price of a neo-air. Comes with a stuff sack and patch kit. It meets every requirement I had. Durability remains to be seen since I have only taken it out 5-10 times.*I say reasonably warm not because the pad didn't do what the company claims but because it didn't go above and beyond. For 3 season camping down to about 30-40F, coupled with my "20F" (really more of a 30F) bag this pad is warm enough. Last weekend I took it camping in the snow, the temps were around 15F at night and the pad was not warm enough with my "20F" bag in a tent. However, I added a ridgerest (14oz) on top of it and put on a down jacket in the bag and was warm enough to sleep through the night. I'd say that is pretty good for a 3 season air pad. |
